sold out.

for anyone who lives in california... well southern california really, one of the major music festivals talked about every year is coachella. for many years coachella has been a huge 3 day festival filled with different types of music ranging from rock to hip hop to electro to reggae to ska. there's also plenty of dancing, alcohol, the strong desert sun beaming down, and of course, tons of food. up until last year the festival has always sold one day passes, so you can pick and choose what day you want to go. but this last year they sold a 3 day pass only. the empire polo grounds were competely filled with people all 3 days, selling out for the first time. this year, the line up was announced (a really good line up might i add..), people were stoked, and tickets finally went on sale. within the first day of sales, over half were sold - that's about 35,000 on day one of sales. four days later, for the first time, coachella has completely sold out - just 5 days after ticket sales. do the math... $320 per ticket times 75,000 tickets = $24 MILLION. and this is juts on ticket sales alone. well done goldenvoice, well done.

really incredible. maybe the line up really is just that good. i know i can't wait.
sahara tent all day & all night!!

reminder note.

so new year's resolutions haven't always been something that i have been keeping. i've often thought about them, but never really put into place. for 2011 (i know january is almost over...yes, i'm aware) but i am trying to stick to improving things for my personal self. i don't think i'll tell anyone, and i won't be punished if i don't follow them exactly, but just something to think always always in the back of my mind. and then i came across this hanni cuff. it reads "fear less, hope more. eat less, chew more. talk less, say more. hate less, love more. and all good things are yours" inscribed on the outside and pretty much those are key essentials that can really help to better 2011. or better life for that matter. things to focus on and be aware of.
you can buy it here.

that's all.

geekin' it up.

so over the weekend i was able to celebrate my friend carlo's 25th birthday... and who doesn't love a good theme party, right? my friends and i got all decked out head to toe in our nerdiest, dorkiest clothing we could scrounge up. glasses were taped, suspenders tightened, and socks rolled high. we celebrated at equator in pasadena with drinks, dancing, and pocket protectors. ok, joke on the last part, but good times were had by all.

birthday boy!

i think my favorite part of the whole celebration was that dressing up for a theme party brought back such great memories from college and all of the outfits that my girlfriends and i dressed up in. miss those days...
happy birthday carlo!

golden globes galore.

every year i don't really get too excited for award season, but for some reason this year i was really thrilled for the golden globes tonight. as per our usual sunday evening routine, i had plans with mom & pops to have dinner and watch the show. i was excited to see beautifully dressed celebrities and for the first time in years i was interested in watching - as i was actually familiar with a good portion of the movies/tv shows. as far as fashions and trends go, it looks like the real winner this year was the long-sleeved broad shouldered, backless dress seen on multiple stars throughout the night. despite the 80 degree plus beach weather in los angeles in january, the celebrities still sported these extravagant looks.

anne hathaway

angelina jolie

leighton meester

emma stone

as far as keeping it classy, elegant, and chic, below are my favorites who really stood out to me.

january jones

natalie portman

olivia wilde

sky high.

new obsession and want item for spring 2011? wedges.

love the extra height they give you without the complete uncomfortableness that sky high stilettos give you. perfect with skinny jeans, 70's inspired high waisted flares, skirts, dresses, and shorts, they are the perfect compliment to any outfit.

triple take.

so as i mentioned in some other posts (here and here) how forever 21 is notorious for copying an idea or theme almost exactly as another garment, forever 21 has been spotted yet again. while on shopbop's website the other day, i came across this dress that had a striking resemblance to the dress i wore for this past new year's eve. the original of course - although made of better quality, richer colors, and with a longer hem - i really was able to see just how close the two dresses really were. take shopbop's halston heritage pleated evening dress vs. the forever 21 version of nearly the identical piece.

priced at $595

the dress on me, priced at $27.80

so you may not be able to completely tell in my photos, but the dress is really similar. the double layer, flowy, pleated fabric and the very similar rose/lavender/taupe color is pretty close too. and as expected, the forever 21 version, at a tiny fraction of the price.

oh forever 21, how we can't get enough of you for us budget friendly ladies.

street art.

over the weekend i was at my parents house for sunday dinner & a movie and i was introduced to a documentary i knew nothing about it. it was called exit through the gift shop. my parents gave me the background and let me know it was about these certain street/graffiti artists and they told me how the movie focuses on their lives and where they got to where they are now. well, what sounded extremely boring to me ended up being a fabulous film. i was happily surprised. i was introduced to the works of shephard fairey, bansky, space invader, and mr brainwash. all are amazing artists on their own and all have worked together at one point. how the three of them are not in jail for their work? i'll never know. either way, each of these artists has produced some of the most creative artwork i have seen in a really long time and i am dying to find the next show that one of these guys has. if they ever have one...

banksy was my favorite artist of them all. his artistic ways of mixing natures imperfections on old walls with his street style is impeccable. behind every piece of his art there is some meaning, some joke, and definitely some personality. here are some of my favorite images from the master himself.
