so ever since college, i was always hoping one of my friends would throw an 'ugly christmas sweater' party. after years of waiting and seeing other's friends photos from their own gatherings of their own ugly sweater parties, the dream finally came true for me this year. hosted by one of my lovely girlfriends, jen, everyone came over to her place last night decked out in ugly sweaters (& christmas ensembles head to toe).
what i didn't know, was how difficult & expensive these so called sweaters were. my roommate, teresa, and i searched high and low for the perfect sweater. we went to thrift stores, jc penny, kohl's, and more, and found nothing. so we came to the conclusion that we would make our own. while dodging the madness of people at kohl's on a sunday afternoon, we searched everywhere from the boys section to the men's section to even the home goods section (we were desperate and really trying to get creative). teresa spotted the perfect thing to make our sweaters - christmas place mats. yep, place mats for the dining room table. the decision was made and we purchased one place mat with 6 snowmen on it and we cut it up into squares and sewed them onto an oversized sweater - the outfit was complete. to top it off, we made snowflake headbands, using decorative snowflakes, felt, and elastic. our ugly sweater outfits were complete.
amazing friends.
the hostess.

everything was festive, the tree was lit, and drinks were had. it was a great time to catch up with old friends and more importantly, it really kicked off the holiday season for me. can't wait for more of this season coming up!
xx.
