a little goes a long way.

so one sunday afternoon today, my dad told me there was this amazing segment on the sunday news about some interior designer that i just had to see. through all his words of mumble jumble and excitement, i finally saw the segment on what he was talking about. with no surprise (being exactly my father's daughter), i immediately feel in love with her just as much as he did. kelly wearstler is her name. decorating genius at hand. fashionista at heart. this woman is incredibly talented with a bold eye for mixing patterns, prints and textures. you may have seen her as a judge on bravo's top design and is truly gifted in what she does. this 10 minute segment was all i needed today for inspiration. decorating the famous viceroy hotels in santa monica, palm springs, and miami, her classy mix of modern and vintage is effortless and timeless. i think one of my favorite things about her style is the mix of black and white with a pop of a bright color. here are some of my favorite shots of her work...

in LOVE with this bookcase

kelly, you are my inspiration for my next projects coming up. need to go fabric shopping...michael levine, here i come!

12x12.

thank you forever 21. i am now obsessed with plenty of the new looks you have released for the twelve by twelve f/w 2010 lookbook. i love how all of these looks are reinvented with a new, flashy modern twist. i also love the fact that most of these goodies are accessorized with chunky jewelry, sky high heels, and simple hair dos. for those of you who are ladies on a budget (cough...ME...cough), the twelve by twelve line at forever 21 will have you heads over heels for fashion forward looks and a really reasonable price. from cardigans to tights, to skirts, tops, and harem pants they have it all. i will be making my way over to f21 sooner rather than later. fall weather... come to me!!

members only.

so going back to the high school days when my brother introduced me the members only jackets, i was immediately turned on. i loved the 'cool' vintage feel, the light weight and feel of the fabric, and of course i couldn't resist the colors they came in. well i happened to be in marshalls over the weekend, doing my monthly marshalls run (if any of you know me, you KNOW i am a HUGE bargain shopper), the other day and came across this beauty. i have been lusting after it for a while, have seen it plenty of times, but never came around to buying it since i already had one. and by one i mean a black leather jacket. but this i couldn't resist. it was a steal for what i was getting. originally priced at $298, i scored this bad boy for $99. the best part? they had one size left and it fits me like a glove. i impulsively made the purchase and ever since i have been home i can't stop staring slash trying it on. i think it's a sign.

old school MO jacket...

new and improved MO leather jacket...love the 3/4 sleeves..

can it be fall already??
dying to wear thisssssss.

east or west?

ed westwick that is. dressed up as chuck bass, or as himself, i 100% love his style. now with the return of gossip girl last monday, i keep going back and forth between the 3 main guys, but ed westwick wins the race. while i may not love his character on the show, his style is complete perfection in my eyes. the refined bad boy. the skinny ties. the cardigans. the cuffed up jeans. i love it all.

droooooooooool.
tuning in every monday at 9pm to watch this bad boy.

circle circle, dot dot.

new creation!

i went to michael levine (my favorite fabric store in downtown LA) yesterday as i usually do on my days off, not knowing what i wanted to make. i searched the designer silks, cottons, jersey knits, and nothing was coming to me until i stumbled upon the lace section. i immediately was drawn to the black lace, and knew i wanted to create something with it. and then it hit me. i have been drooling over these american apparel vintage lace inspired tops and i just couldn't get myself to fork over the $38 they were asking for. not that $38 is TOO much, but for something so simple, i really thought i could create something so similar, if not exactly the same. well, that came true! i started working on this new top for a few hours, and the finished product was something that looked almost exactly the same, and was everything i envisioned.

here is the american apparel version:

and here is my creation:

so it's not the EXACT fabric as the aa one, but it's pretty damn close. so happy with the way it turned out. and the best part? i used about a yard of fabric that cost $3/yard. yes please!

nyfw 2010.

so i've had to play a serious game of catch up on nyfw since i've been out of the country, but after finally going through almost everything i wanted to see, here i am, ready to share some of my favorites and my take on things.

i still love the fact that pattern play is in full effect (i.e: L.A.M.B., betsey johnson, alice + olivia, etc) . i loved this trend when it first started making appearances months ago, and love that moving forward i know the trend is not going anywhere. animal print and stripes? don't mind if i do. speaking of pattern play, same goes for texture as well. mixing bold sequins with feathers? same deal. love love love.

i also am extremely happy to see that the 70's inspired clothes are here to stay as well. the high-waisted pants, the denim on denim, everything about it i love. also, while i love that the fall season has jewel tones, i must say that brights are probably my favorites - and plenty of those were seen on the runway this year (ie: marc jacobs, alice + olivia, betsey johnson, etc). the brighter the better.

while i wasn't 100% convinced with his collection as most of it felt like was something we have all seen before, christian siriano did have a few pieces that i adored and thought were completely wearable.

and finally here are a few of my favorites from nanette lepore. when i saw these looks, i immediately wanted to be on an island sipping cocktails, basking in the sun. love the look of the bandeau/bra top paired with high waisted shorts/skirts. yes please!

and i do have to give a special shout out to my brother, ryan, who got the opportunity to shoot the alexander wang show (luckkky), so i have a special place in my heart for this collection. loved these looks (oversized knits, harem pants galore, and shapeless dresses) - the ultimate man repellers.

i guess that kind of wraps it up...there are SO many designers who had fabulous runway shows this year so i could post for days about it, but will refrain from doing so and will keep it with what i've got. until next time..
