playing dress up.

i have always loved halloween time for numerous reasons and this year is no different. when i was growing up i remember being so excited to dress up and make my costume with my mom or find the perfect outfit somewhere and the same still remains today - sans the help of mom (sorry mom!). now that i am older and more experienced, the costumes have evidently become smaller and more skin is showing. but that's perfectly acceptable for one night out of the year, right? having said that, i have been working on the finishing touches of my costume this year and i can't wait to wear it this weekend. can't wait to post pics coming soon!

in the meantime... here are some of my favorite costumes i have worn for halloween over the more recent years (and some just from themed events). go big or go home, right?

sailors. (bon voyage party)

pirates. (21st birthday).
neon cave girls. (halloween '09).
flapper girls. (brother's wedding '09).
safari tour guide. (halloween '08).

can this week go by ANY faster?!

happy halloweenie.

this time of year is always my favorite. it always has been, and i think it always will be. the start of halloween realy starts it all. with halloween, then quickly comes my birthday, then thanksgiving, then mom's bday, then christmas, and then wrapping it all up comes the new year. starting off this time of year right, my girlfriends and i have decided to be ballerinas for halloween. we aren't going to be the typical super-sexy-slash-half-naked ones, but a more moderate version with our own personal touches. we found these great organza tutus online for a price not too bad at all. purchased them so each of us is a different color (purple [the color i am], turquiose, hot pink, black, and the traditional light pink). we are all going to pair them with a custom top - add jewls, lace, ribbon, whatever really and then sew ribbon to some flats to complete the look! have at it below. can NOT wait to wear this on sunday!

the look.. all jumbled up.

the shoes (probably my favorite part)

can't wait to post pics from this weekend's festivities!
until then...

personal touches.

as many of you know, i have been wanting a new hat for fall/winter. while i love the look of the panama hat - i do love the look of a wool one that easily works for fall. i was shopping at urban the other day and came across this one in the sale rack for $10. i was so excited, i immediately bought it and realized what i needed to do as soon as i got home. i loved the ribbon on it, creating contrast and depth, but knew it needed something else. i gathered my feathers and put them on for the finishing touch. the hat is basically everything that i have been wanting!

a couple simple steps... and ta da!
hats off!

rawr!

sooo with the cold weather theme that is finally upon us, one thing has been on my mind for a while - i want a faux fur vest. it's one of my favorite fall essentials this year and the trend has been hitting big all over. i just can't get enough and i can't help but love it. while living in LA the weather doesnt get too cold even in winter, but a girl can dream, right? i have been lusting over various versions of these vests, but decided to tackle my own project and create my own custom fitted design. i started with about a yard of fabric (maybe a yard & a half), and kind of measured, began sewing and viola! out came a vest. here are several of my my inspirations... and of course my creation below...

double take.

of course i was browsing the forever 21 website today and came across this image which very much reminded me of something i am very familiar with. i think i MAY be familiar with it because it's along the same lines as something i have created on my own! drum roll please... a feathered headband. exhibit a shows a headband from forever 21. triple layer feathers, brown & cream colors, etc. exhibit b shows my headband that posted and created way back when. obviously ignore the other studded headband in the picture, but it's pretty damn close. thoughts?

dear forever 21,
this is why i love and why our great minds think alike.
love,
kacie

ps - this totally inspired me to go back to michael levine's and not only buy feathers for new headbands (& other creations)... but for new fabric. i have several ideas floating around in my head... can't wait to share them soon!

lanvin for h&m.

anyone else remember the jimmy choo collection for h&m last year? i suuuuure do - thanks to one of my christmas gifts last year. well, every year as we all know h&m teams up with a designer and they create several pieces together for the worldwide release for autumn. this year it's lanvin. you can expect lanvin's traditional style with hints of asymmetry, ruffles, little black dresses and tailored jackets. the dream has finally come true for lanvin lovers - to purchase something so fashion forward at a price that is not extremely exclusive - drool on people, drool on.

set the date - nov 2. images will be released for previews.
set time
date & time - nov 23. the collection hits stores worldwide.
since it's two days after my birthday i'm thinking late birthday gift to myself? :)

things could get messi.

so i have been with my soccer team for about 6 months now and each week we improve and work more collectively as a team. everything is starting to finally come together for us. while we may not win every game, it's still extremely fun, and even more so, it's just great to be playing the sport i love again. when i first started on the team our colors were white & black...'the black mambas'. annnnd after a couple of seasons it was decided we needed some new uniforms. new uniforms, new start, new season. after much deliberation & research we decided to go with the idea and get some new ones. these uniforms are LEGIT. we were lucky enough to have sponsors for these upcoming seasons to help with the uniforms and and a HUGE thank you goes to both of them - dewitt algorri & algorri & mccune & harber law firms. our team finally feels complete and i can't wait to attack in tomorrow's game.

in case anyone was wondering why our uniforms look familiar? thank you to fc barcelona for having these uniforms so that we could replicate them and pretend we are a team of messi's. and if you don't know who messi is... he's probably the greatest player in the world right now.

goooo FUERZA MAMBAS!

one tuff cuff.

normally i don't really like the look of cuffs, and i 100% prefer bracelets, but this season jcrew's collection has completely changed my mind. each one is different in it's own way. from shape, to texture, to color, to even fabric choices. everything is so unique in it's own way.

hats off.

with the colder weather coming hopefully coming soon, i can't seem to stop thinking about the newly refined, modern, perfect for fall fedora. the wide brim fedora. similar to a panama hat- which usually screams summer - this one has that colder weather look that i am just 100% in love with. it's made of wool, so it is made of a thicker material, and comes in a rich camel color with a black contrasting ribbon. or you can also find it in a crisp all black. both are vertsatile, and i keep picturing it with multiple fall necessities that i have mentioned in previous posts. for $37.07, i'm soooooolllld.

now the real question is...
camel or black? camel or black?

tailored trousers.

so i was in palm springs with the girls this weekend for my friend's bday and a couple of the girls and i got into a lengthy discussion of what's in right now, whose styles we like, what fall trends we can't live without, etc. ever since that convo i can't get the thought out of my head. i need some trousers. yearning for a pair. just that fitted-oh-so-perfectly, high waisted pair is all i need. paired with a simple neutral top, throw on a blazer, and you're set. dress it up with sky high heels, dress it down with some ballet flats you name it. and if you're really feeling it, throw on some ankle booties. all are perfetly acceptable with this fall essential.

i officially have my eye on these right now:

zara high waist trousers.

the search begins now...yes please!

more bootie please.

i never really liked the style of ankle booties until it finally hit me this season. and now i'm obsessed and can't stop thinking about them. they are so versatile. skinny jeans, tailored trousers, skirts, dresses, all of the above. yes, yes, yes, and yes. i was browsing the BCBGeneration website and came across 3 pairs that i can't stop thinking about. of course the three i saw were in different colors - brown, gray, and black and of course three different styles - chunky heel, stiletto, and wedge... so naturally i want all of them.
