is it fall yet?

while i love summer and all that it has to offer (beaches, warm weather, shorts, etc) i think i may be ready for fall? weird for me to say coming from a 90 degree weather lover, but this year (probably the first year ever) i really am ready to jump into fall with some new clothing and styles. even though living in sourhern california means that fall really won't come until maybe late october, early november, it's okay.... we can just hope it comes sooner. i have put together a list of my fall essentials for 2010.. hopefully this won't be just a wishlist, but will become a reality!

the camel coat:
a must have. while i have black and gray, even an off white one, the camel tones are really in for this fall. i want. i neeeeeed.

the wide leg pants:
as i mentioned before, what goes around comes around, the same can be said for wide leg pants. throw on some wedges under these high-waisted wide leggers and you're set. so 70's and so right.

the
faux fur coat and/or vest:
i think i feel in love with this look last fall, but it has resurfaced again. love the look of the vest paired with a flirty floral dress or over a simple long sleeve & jeans. ditto for the fur coat. the texture contrast is always a plus. think fur is to bulky? break up the look with a belt to give you a waist.

the fitted blazer:
this is a timeless piece and well worth splurging on if necessary. this versatile piece is perfect not only in the winter with some layers, but its easily do-able in the spring & summer with a simple tank or cami.

the military jacket:
this military trend has been popular for quite some time, but it's not going anywhere quite yet. a simple military jacket is essential. the simple gold buttons really pop on that navy or army green jacket. this style adds the perfect amount of masculinity to make it perfectly feminine.

knee to thigh high boots:
i was SO against this trend last year, but it has taken over me and i've surrendered. i LOVE this look now. rule # 1? keep the heel lower than the norm to avoid looking like a complete hooker.

gloves:
so maybe not completely necessary for here in LA, but i can't help but love the look. love the look of fingerless gloves. any fabric. knit? leather? long gloves to your elbows? yes please.. where do i sign up?\

here's to fall weather!

in a new york minute.

new york was everything i wanted and more. the family was reunited again, old family friends were seen, and great times were had. pretty sure i ate my way through the 4 days of being there, but the walking hopefully balanced everything out. needless to say, new york was incredible and i absolutely can't wait to go back. end of story.

here are some highlights of the trip... (i took well over 250 photos... soo i figured i should probably cut down a bit).

marc jacobs.

from la to madrid.

the madness of the galaxy vs real madrid game has finally settled down and the game last night was incredible. much like dodger stadium, i truly love the rosebowl. being that it was a soccer event really brings back amazing memories from my youth of my club soccer days. we got there early to tailgate and ended up not finding our friends, so we pretty much created our own tailgate behind some random car. chad brought his own soccer ball so we ended up playing and kicking the ball around with random people as they walked by. it was really cool just making new friends so easily like that. we finally got inside the stadium and the familiar feels, sights, sounds and atmosphere was awesome. the game was intense, galaxy was up 2-0 at the half and real madrid came back with 3 goals in the second half making it 3-2. one of the highlights was cristiano ronaldo being there and playing. although he didn't play until the second half, it was definitely enjoyable. wish i had my moms long zoom lens for some close ups, but i got a few good ones.

ronaldo... #7

the final score
yes please.

off to my soccer game right now!

think blue.

los doyers.

don't know what it is about them, but i love live sporting events. ever since i was a child i used to go to dodger games a lot with the family. i used to love the atmosphere, the food, the smells, everything about dodger stadium. my dad used to get tickets through work, and i just remember being so excited for 'free duffel bag night' or 'fireworks night'. i really think my favorite was 'free pin night' because yes, i had my own pin collection back in the day. finally after neglecting the stadium for years (literally years, but not on purpose) i found myself there again tonight with my uncle bob (blob). he usually takes me once a season, and that's about all i need for my dodger fix. i still got that same giddy feeling tonight as we walked up to the entrance and found our seats. while i still loved every minute of it... the stadium has really changed since the way i remembered it as a kid. when i was young, there were pretty much two choices for food: dodger dogs and carl's jr - and at that time, carl's jr was really the popular choice. things have completely changed. it's almost impossible to buy food without some sort of dodger insignia on it or some food that comes from a chain restaurant - everything from carnation malts, to water bottles, to the napkins, it's all about the marketing. while the dodgers took a mean beating against the padres, my fun was still had and i could easily go for round two!

just as i remember as a kid
i was really trying to focus on matt kemp.. not the vendor, i swear
uncle b(l)ob & i

just FYI - i had a dodger dog & garlic fries tonight - the dodger dog was exactly as i remembered them (delicious), and while the garlic fries were heavenly, i'm pretty sure i'll be smelling like garlic 3 weeks from now. awesome.

out of the ordinary.

hemlines and seams can be so plain jane. while in some cases the straight lines are completely acceptable (i.e, work) but why not take it to the next level and throw in some asymmetry? it's funny because i used to hate the 'one shoulder dress look' but it finally hit how wonderful asymmetrical and uneven lines can be. the uneven lines appeal to the eye creating this reaction that is completely different and fresh. something unexpected. love the looks from tops to dresses to outerwear. hoping to make my collection of asymmetry grow!

BCBG Max Azria Fall 2010

Helmut Lang - Leather combo jacket (love the simplicity of the jacket followed by the angled hem at the bottom)

Stella McCartney - Asymmetric bow-detail satin dress (a splash of color never did any harm)

Helmut Lang - Draped silk top

surface to air - studs jacket (yes, studs)
love the colors in these (the 2 in the middle are so SJP)
Proenza Schouler - NYFW Fall 2010 Final look (pretty much obsessed)

the dog days are over.

is anyone else as obsessed as i am with florence & the machine's - the dog days are over? the lightness, the uplifting spirit, and the joy experienced when listening to it are quite extraordinary. i swear i can't seem to get enough of this song. if you don't know what i am talking about, i'm sure you have subconsciously heard it. in every trailer of eat pray love right now, the song is cheerfully playing the in the background. while i am only 50 pages into the book, my excitement for the movie continually grows. can't wait for it to come out on august 13th. anyway, the mix of her distinct voice, mixed with the catchy tune and percussion has me keeping this on repeat. this also truly inspires me to travel the world and to be a better person all around. can't wait to see what these next few months have in store for me. download this song - you WON'T regret it!
