zooey zooey zooey.

1/3 charming, 1/3 unique, 1/3 beautiful.

one of the celebrities who i just adore is zooey deschanel. from quirky and nerdy in elf, to extremely stylish and flighty in (500) days of summer, she truly is an icon whose style i look up to. her fashion sense both on and off the screen is impeccable and no matter what, she carries a confidence with her that only few can maintain. not only is is she talented on screen, but off screen she quite talented as well. she uniquely leads her own band she & him and if you haven't heard of them, i strongly recommend checking them out. their indie-folksy sound just makes me think of summer and makes me want that feeling to last forever. zooey definitely has a wonderful, soothing voice and i could listen to her for hours. married to the front man of death cab for cutie (another great indie band), she is clearly one of a kind, and i just can't seem to get enough.

some of my fav shots of her:

love these yellow shorts
love the contrast of black & white

the polka dots & stripes - perfection

what a stud.

studs anyone? i have to say that even back in my rocker Thrice, AFI, Saosin, Chiodos days i have secretly always loved studded clothing. i swear after wearing studded punk belts in high school and freshman year of college, i swore i would never go back. i also thought i would just somehow grow out of that phase... but apparently maybe not. while i may not be rocking the same exact styles of the studded belts & visiting hot topic on a weekly basis, i have definetly learned to play with studs in a more fashion forward mature way. such a simple concept can be turned into the greatest of things! the spectrum ranges and the possibilities are endless with everything from embellished tops, jackets, pumps, boots, purses, hats you name it!

while out shopping for fabric a few weeks ago i came across the embellishment/accessories department. i immediate fell in love and was there for over an hour picking and choosing what my next project would be. i ended up with tons of elastic, lining, & feathers (see my headband collection)... and a bag of loose gold studs. didn't really have anything in my mind when i purchased them, but thought i'd give it a shot. see below for my inspirations... and then even further for my creation.

some of my inspirations:

and for my creation... since i had the studs i worked around the image of an embellished shirt, but didn't want to get too crazy. less is more.

light as a feather.

what goes around comes around.. or so my mom once said. as evident with current clothing styles right now, the same is easily said for accessories. while once popular in the 70's the hippie headband look is back. and i'm in love. since sewing in my free time is definitely a love of mine, i thought i'd take a break from making clothes and i started creating my own headbands. usually i wear just the simple lamé ones from american apparel, but i thought i'd go out of my comfort zone of clothing and create my own headbands. celebrities like mischa barton & nicole richie have also created their own lines of headbands which are very cute, but also come with the celebrity price tag. i think my inspiration really came from the return of the high waisted shorts/pants look, mixing patterns, and oversized sunglasses that a headband could just top off to complete the outfit.

...and my new collection...

more updates to follow on the new headband collection... just kind of throwing around some ideas here and there... hopefully with the right marketing i'll be able to start selling these soon!

ring my bell.

is it just me or has the double ring trend really taken off? i think this fashion really took flight when the name necklace came with when SJP premiered her 'carrie' necklace on sex & the city. from there, girls all over were wearing their own personalized necklace. once that trend hit the streets, other options started emerging like the double finger name ring. i would definitely say the double finger name ring started with lauren conrad on the hills. shortly following, you could see these name rings on other celebs like khloe kardashian, audrina patridge, & jennifer love hewitt to name a few. well this trend has clearly taken off. i have several of my own and yearn for more. i swear i can't get enough! prices range from hundreds (like the collection from elizabeth & james) to as low as $3.80 (thank you forever 21).

been there. done that. messed around.

concert season is upon us my friends (and pretty much has been since the kick off with coachella in april). while 2 or 3 day festivals like coachella & electric daisy carnival are fantastic in their own ways, there really is something special about intimate venues with a smaller audience. this past thursday i went to see La Roux at club nokia at LA Live. i forgot what an amazing venue it really is. while there is a lower general admission section, even being upstairs still makes you feel like you are in the front row. the acoustics are great, and really no matter where you end up, it's always a great view. thanks to work, the girls and i got set up with VIP wristbands to watch upstairs from a private area. yes please! if you haven't seen a show at club nokia, you NEED to go!

if La Roux wasn't enough on thursday, i was lucky enough to get to see MGMT at the Greek on friday through work. I unfortunately missed them when they performed at coachella this past year, so i was especially stoked to see them. the greek is yet another venue that is a gem. while there are actual seats at this place and only a small general admission area, everything about it is welcoming. the lights were fantastic during the show and the guys of MGMT were dead on. the psychedelic sound and the set list was a wonderful mix of old and new. the few personal favorites were 'electric feel' 'its working' and the set closer 'kids'. after the show (& our amazing 4th row seats) i got to hang out backstage (thank you work!) and stayed for a while and met the guys of the band and hung out with them. the guys were welcoming and couldn't have been nicer. i'm pretty excited because i get to see them again tonight at the fox theater in pomona (a venue i haven't been to yet!). MGMT round two, here i come!

looking forward to tonight's show - if it's half as good as friday was, i will be very content.

welcome.

why hello.

the thought of actually starting a blog has frightened me for weeks, even months now. i never thought i would do it, but why not. most of the posts will more than likely be fashion or music related, but i'm sure i'll throw in a few extras just for kicks. sit back, relax, and enjoy!
